We have enhanced the LPS17 by adding a unique event in the schedule. It will take place on Wednesday June 7, the day before the main trade show and immediately before the opening Cocktail Reception at Grosvenor House on Park Lane.
The LPS 2017 will play host to a Vegetable Summit, marking the end of the first phase of a ground-breaking project to raise vegetable consumption in the UK.
Project leader The Food Foundation has combined with organisations including Nourish Scotland and WWF-UK, and brought together a committed group of stakeholders to first identify the biggest food-system barriers to vegetable consumption and then devise a plan to increase veg intake (and sales) across the UK.
The Peas Please – Making a Pledge for More Veg Campaign highlights the “five peas in a pod” pinpointed as being vital to raising vegetable intake: • pleasure • producers • price • products • placement
The objective is simple: to bring together growers, retailers, fast-food and restaurant chains, caterers, processors and the public sector, with a common goal of making it easier for everyone to eat vegetables. Work over the next few months will lead to the summit at the LPS on June 7, where hundreds of interested stakeholders will discuss the findings and government and business leaders will be asked to commit to a plan of action.
Peas Please aims to bring about a shift in culture based on far more than healthy eating advice, and connect people from the supply chain and well beyond to effect a major facelift for the image of veg in the UK. More details on speakers and content for the Summit programme will be made available in the next few months, but already there are some big-hitting names on-board and the day promises to draw an indelible line in the sand for the vegetable industry in this country – and for the health of our nation.
