Nurturing the leaders of tomorrow At The London Produce Show and Conference, we aim to help the industry in its constant drive to attract new talent by offering the opportunity for students of horticulture, business and culinary subjects to meet, learn and engage with representatives of the fresh fruit, veg and flower industries. At the LPS16, a bespoke seminar programme saw students being addressed by several fresh produce professionals, who covered a wide range of industry jobs and sectors and gave the students valuable insight into the career progression opportunities that exist in the industry. Dedicated mentors then guided students around the show floor to introduce them to the trade at large and again highlighted the massive diversity of opportunity that the fresh produce industry has to offer. Students from the UK and overseas were given free and full access to every element of the show, to expose them to as many people and sectors as possible. An exclusive tour on the Friday morning then took them to East Malling Research in Kent, to explore the UK’s leading horticultural and agricultural research institute, which specialises in fruit production.
