Oli Blanc – official LPS16 Show Ambassador Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 11.03.17 Multi-talented Oli is the creator of the Henri Le Worm app and interactive website, which aims to connect young children with food and nature, to increase their knowledge of fresh fruit and vegetables and encourage them to eat more healthily. The app is a story narrated by Simon Pegg, featuring recipes by Oli’s renowned father, chef Raymond Blanc. It also includes interactive touch points that offer up lots of facts about food and nature and educates children about the provenance of their food. Since its launch, it has already reached number one in Apple’s Education category and won several awards. Download the app here. Henri Le Worm has been piloted at primary schools with great success to raise grassroots awareness of fresh produce consumption. Teachers combine the interactive and fully animated website with free lesson plans as an educational tool to engage pupils. Oli is now working with these schools to help them create healthy-eating plans and develop bespoke Henri Le Worm gardens, following the model of his award winning kid’s show garden at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. Pupils are being taught to grow their own fruit and veg and learn about the ecology of gardens, recycling, and food miles. “We are passionate about education through entertainment,” says Oli. “Our aim is to establish ourselves as the go-to brand for kids cooking and gardening. Cooking is firmly back on the curriculum and we feel that Henri and his friends can play a major role in tackling childhood obesity and the spread of diabetes, not to mention tackling some of the myths about produce that puts children off eating healthily.Photography by Paul Wilkinson Photography Ltd. “The London Produce Show and Conference is a great platform for me to raise awareness within the fresh produce industry of Henri and his friends and their desire to get children eating more fresh produce. I look forward to meeting people from every sector of the industry and discussing how we can help turn the success of our initiative into increased sales of their healthy products.” As the LPS16 Show Ambassador, Oli will take part in social media events in the run-up to the event, and then attend the Opening Cocktail Reception at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane on June 8. He will take part in the Thought Leaders Breakfast Panel on June 9, before officially opening the LPS Trade Exhibition at the ribbon cutting ceremony, in the five-star venue’s Great Room. Oli will also introduce the show’s Media Masterclass, in the Chef Demonstration Kitchen later on the same day. “We could not have found a more suitable Ambassador for our third show,” said Tommy Leighton, managing director of the LPS. “Oli’s huge passion for high-quality produce, coupled with his desire to educate and inspire children with healthy-eating messages, are qualities our industry can harness and support to enhance both the future prospects of our industry and the next generation of consumers we want to buy and love our produce.”
